Loose Moral Compass

I saw a lady litter.

I was at a stop sign around the block from my house.  She was pushing an expensive baby stroller and wearing a cute outfit.  She finished a bottle of water and then threw it behind the sign for our neighborhood.

I couldn’t believe it.

She must have seen me see her.

I was right there. She didn’t care.

She just threw the empty bottle and kept walking. I should have honked my car. Or shouted out to her.  But I’m a chicken shit and I just sat there. Watching.

I imagine her doing all sorts of awful things and not caring.  Not tipping enough. Not recycling.  Returning outfits that she already wore. Never washing her hands after she uses the bathroom.

She’s probably a liar too.

On my way home I stopped and picked up the bottle.

It was a Fiji water. Now I’ll be thinking about her every time I see a bottle.

That poor baby.

One of my pet peeves is when people take grocery carts to their car to unload their groceries and don’t return them. It might not be as bad as littering because there are employees that round them up but it still annoys me.

Yesterday a lady left her cart in front of me, making it impossible for me to get to use the walkway she left it on without moving it. So I yanked the cart and did what she was obviously too lazy to do.

She chimed from her car “thank you!” and I flipped her off as I took it back. Part of me feels like I shouldn’t have been so harsh but the other part of me felt satisfied to show her my middle finger. 🙂

LOL I feel your pain. Every day for a week or so my children and I cut home the back way and it was so littered up with trash it was horrible. So, I took the kids out with me one day and we cleaned it all up. One other person from our neighborhood came over and started helping and said he had felt the same way when he passed by. Other people simply asked — why are you cleaning up trash?

Ugh. I don’t get it. It must be really liberating to just throw something wherever you want, no guilt involved! And I really do consider it to be the gateway crime – if you are a litterbug, I’m sure you’re also doing other criminal activity!

Oh, littering is one of those things that really bothers me. It’s like, “Sure, the earth will just reabsorb that. No problem.”
